Every so often, we get one that’s tiny, to the point that you think, “is it really worth going to this one?”. The answer is, of course yes it is, because that’s the point of the entire TVI project for one, but also because sometimes the really small ones throw up the most amazing things. This one in East Suffolk is no exception.

For starters, we have a marina, and not just any old marina. This is the Suffolk Yacht Harbour, a private marina based on the shore of the River Orwell, which is home to no fewer than eleven marine based businesses which cater for everyone’s boating needs. It also has the largest hoist technology anywhere on the British coast between Bridlington and the Solent.

You might think the marina is pretty much all there is, but it isn’t. There’s the Stour and Orwell walk, and I’m led to believe my pronunciation of “Stour” in this video is in fact that of the River Stour in the Midlands, and should be said “Stoor” as opposed to “Stouwer” here. Regardless, the views across the River Orwell are unparalleled from the walk.

Then we have the fascinating former church which once stood between here and the village of Levington. The field in which it was is still known today as “Chapel Field”. There’s a hall as well here – the very building that gives this parish its name – which is the location of Puddle Ducks, a swimming lesson scheme for babies and small children.

There’s also a level crossing, a solar farm and some reservoirs. I really enjoyed this area of Suffolk, and I hope you do too. Welcome to the place that just 30 people call home – STRATTON HALL.
