On January 8, 2007 a triple homicide takes place in Bridgeport, Connecticut USA (a city that has struggled hard to recover from the crack cocaine epidemic of the 1990s). The incident stemmed from a work related dispute at a local Muslim owned gas station and mini market. Nine years earlier, during the Christmas and coinciding Islamic (Ramadan) holiday season of that year, a guerilla film crew visited the store for 1 week. One of the four main characters is an eventual murder victim, and one is the killer.
Travel back in time and meet the 4 Muslim immigrants who work there as each shares his disparate pre 9/11 views on race, crime and religion. Watch as they deal with hustlers, drug dealers, prostitutes, and the struggling working populace. Travel forward and find out the shocking and tragic conclusion.
There's "Murdoch" - an Iranian Joe Pesci - with local mafia ties. Hasaan, the ill tempered Egyptian who yells viscious insults in Arabic at his customers (we have the translations); Kadir, the sensitive Ethiopian with a tragic past, and Hassan the Jordanian man of Allah. Unconcerned with political correctness, Mini Market Mecca is alternately funny, outrageous, poignant and sometimes offensive - but it's always honest.
