Camping Weekend Doomed from the Beginning.

This weekend I struggled to find a dispersed campsite in Northern Minnesota. Over the past few years I have collected a list of remote campsites up here. It is not uncommon to find one or two campsites occupied on a Friday night, but this is the first time I was unable to find a spot altogether. Around midnight I left the Chippawa National Forest feeling defeated. I stayed overnight at the Hibbing Walmart; it was convenient and quiet.
The following morning, I decided to try my luck in the Superior National Forest. I had pinned Big Rice Rustic Campgrounds to my phone years ago. I had never stayed there before. The reviews for the site were not that good. People had commented that it was not kept up well and the sites were not level. I was not put off by the reviews because I don't generally stay at places that are maintained with level parking pads. I was also hoping that the reviews would keep people away.
I arrived at the rustic campground Saturday morning, and to my delight, I found the campsite was empty. The reviews for the site were correct, however the unkept appearance reminded me of my usual campsites, I felt right at home. I was super happy to have finally made it to this place and be the only one around.
From there, the weekend was full of incidents that left me wondering, was there a bad aura around this place, or was it a bad weekend for me.
