Maieutics, in simple words, is a method—the Socratic method par excellence—that serves more to help us remember the truth rather than to find it. Both Cato and his teacher Socrates believed that the truth was within us and that before we were born, we knew it. However, at the moment we came into the world, we forgot it. Therefore, maieutics is the method of remembering to reach the truth that is in oneself. Hence the famous Socratic saying: "Know yourself."

In this video we are going to see very briefly the Socratic method, maieutics. A procedure that, through successive questions from a teacher, one can reach the truth that is in oneself. We are going to try to show its different parts and characteristics. And we are going to exemplify it from the film "Socrates" by Roberto Rossellini.
