How to solder header pins

Описание к видео How to solder header pins

In this video we look the technique I use when soldering header pins to the my One Hung Lo Chinese Arduino clones like the Nano, Pro Mini, and Pro Micro. While this short tutorial centers on soldering the pins to these boards, the technique is applicable to situation where you need to solder header pins to a board.

The pins are inserted from the bottom, with the smaller portion of the pins going through to the top of the board, and the longer portion pointing down. The pins are soldered on the top side of the board.

So with this being the case, two problems present themselves; One: How do you hold the pins in place; Two: How do you keep them perpendicular to the board. Well, both of these problems can be solved in one step: Push the pin headers into a breadboard. Now they will be held in the proper position and perpendicular. Now all we have to do is place the board onto the pins and solder them in place.

One last note, use the lowest watt iron you can get to melt the solder well and move quickly. Heat being conducted to the board is your enemy here. A 60W iron is not the iron for this job. A 20W iron is more in line with the needs of the job.
