AQHA Mare and Dog Playing Together*

This is "Annie" a young quarter horse mare (registered name Orphan Dun It) and her friend Cookie, (a white lab) playing together. Notice the communication in their respective languages. These two animals have similar personalities (playful, curious, and kind) it's no wonder they get along so well. As soon as Annie came out of the paddock and into the arena for exercise, Cookie was enticing her to play. Notice how patient they are with each other. The sound is blocked out, but Cookie only barked once and that was when the mare was by the Ranger and the training calf. It was as if to say "You should stay away from there".

In the trainer's absence today, Cookie thought it was her job to look out after, and entertain the mare, and ensure she got her exercise. She did a wonderful job! I think they will both sleep well tonight. This mare was raised with dogs, and the dog was raised with horses so I knew neither were in danger of the other. However, I don't recommend you try this at home.
