One of my subscribers faced a serious issue.

He had an 8-year-old health insurance policy, which he recently ported to Niva Bupa. During past surgeries, it was found that his wife had a longer blood clotting time. While porting, he disclosed most medical details—but forgot to mention this one factor.

Later, realizing the mistake, he proactively emailed the insurer to update this information. But instead of updating it, the company terminated the policy.

Yes—terminated, even after nearly 8 years of holding the policy!

At that time, the moratorium period was 8 years (now it’s reduced to 5 years). Just 7–8 months before completion, this happened.

So, even if you’re nearing the moratorium, be careful. Insurers can still terminate your policy if there’s any non-disclosure, even if it’s unintentional.
