This session aims to explore the role of international cooperation in global health crisis management, while specifically addressing the importance of science diplomacy in pandemics. Looking closely into the cases of Ebola, H1N1 influenza, MERS and the current SARS-CoV-2, it covered the links between research, health policy and international relations, as well as its socio-economic and ethical dimensions. It analysed policy decision-making in the context of complex, multilevel governance and make the case for the role of scientific knowledge in solving traditional collective action dilemmas.
