Moghul Masjid: A piece of Persia in Mumbai

We had visitd this Masjid 8 months back.
It was an unplanned visit though but glad to have found this peaceful and beautiful place .

Some facts about this place -

➡️An Iranian masjid ,hidden in the bylanes of Dongri and as far as we know, the only Iranian masjid in Mumbai.

➡️This turquoise blue Irani Masjid is the oldest piece of Iranian heritage established in 1860 ,is approx 170-180 yrs old .

➡️It was built by a rich Iranian merchant called Haji Mohammad Hussain Shirazi.

➡️Locally known as" Mughal Masjid, or Masjid-e-Iranian" is testimony to the grandeur of Persian architecture.

➡️The mammoth structure hits you like a bolt out of the blue, literally, because a mesmerizing mosaic of blue tiles covers its entire façade.

➡️From an airy sky blue to a rich navy, the entire spectrum of blue shades splash across the walls.

➡️Outside, a massive rectangular pond, or hauz, functions as the centrepiece of the courtyard one finds drinking water stations,stone benches and verdant trees all around.

➡️Next to the masjid, lies the only surviving Irani Hamam (Turkish bath) in India.

➡️Apparently it was built around the same time as the Moghul Masjid and was once quite a popular spot among the Iranians living here.

➡️This is the only surving "hammam" i.e Turkish Bath in the city, may be in india too.

➡️A Turkish bath (also called a hammam) is a community bath house associated with the culture of the Ottoman Empire and more widely the Islamic world,where the visitors can expect an organ-rearranging massage followed by a soothing, hot water bath.

➡️It is the only one in Mumbai to be constructed in the style of the bathing establishments of the middle-east.

➡️Though few people know about its vintage, it is estimated to be at least a century old.

➡️The hammam stands next to the Mughal Masjid in Dongri.

➡️The last mention about it being still operational was a year ago.
