(5 Dec 2013) Former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko - jailed and now on hunger strike - issued a message through her daughter on Thursday condemning the government for the violent suppression of a peaceful protest at the weekend.
In a message read by her daughter Eugenia in front of thousands of protesters in Kiev's Independence Square, Yulia Tymoshenko accused President Yanukovych of throwing down a challenge to the entire democratic world.
"The democratic world waits for those responsible for the bloody attack on our children to be brought to justice," her message read.
Eugenia Tymoshenko added her own view in comments to the crowd, insisting that the protest movement would win their struggle through peaceful means.
