And I also want to just put a wrap on the Lions season here for a minute. I don’t think the pain of this loss is going to go away any time soon for anyone on that team or their fans after how it unfolded. Even though you still have to qualify this season as a success overall…and I do think the future is still so bright…it’s going to be tough to get over. But if there is one coach who I believe can pull his team and his fanbase…it’s Dan Campbell. Listen to what he had to say after the game about his message to the team…

His ability to deliver that hard truth and set the expectation is exactly why I think this team is going to be right back in the thick of things next year. There’s no sugar coating, there are no delusions or excuses, and there’s no “embracing the suck” either. There’s just setting the standard for what needs to happen going forward.

And really, the reason things haven’t worked in Detroit in the past has nothing to do with a curse, or whatever dumb joke you want to make about Detroit or the Lions being the Lions…it’s because they hadn’t had the right coach and management in place until now. With the leadership of Dan Campbell and the incredible eye for talent that Brad Holmes – who should be executive of the year in my opinion – has put on display…this organization is finally in such good hands. I know that doesn’t take away the sting right now, but I fully believe in what this team can do going forward with the pieces they have in place.
