There's a lot of numbers going around as to what The Marvels actually cost to produce, and promote. To be generous I discounted promotion, and rounded the cost of production down to a mere 200 million dollars. I did it the extra kindness of adjusting for inflation to the year 2019 when the project was announced rather than the subsequent years in which it was produced. This was more of a kindness to myself to be honest. As everyone knows, the rate of inflation increased quite a bit from month to month. I wouldn't know where to start figuring out what was spent, or when.

Another simplification is the use of the consumer price index. (probably a very understated measure of inflation) It's just a comparison of relative purchasing power for the US dollar over time. For this case It doesn't take into account the specific differences in the cost of labour, International or domestic production, the technology or methods used, the cost of insurance, what have you. It's based on an arbitrary basket of goods for the whole of the United States of America rather than a basket of goods specific to Hollywood. So yeah, no cocaine deflation.To generously account for this as best as I could, I heavily rounded down all the results. So, for example:

Star Trek 2 had a budget of $12,000,000 in 1982. In 2019 that would be the equivalent of $33,750,099. That would go into two-hundred million 5.92 times, so I rounded all the way down to 5 even though it was very nearly 6.
