The club is already moving as fast as it can, so trying to "add a little more" is only going to disrupt its speed and path. Learning to swing the club smoothly is one of the most important parts of striking a golf ball well. The ball is struck when the club is midway between being open and closed but the club cannot be swung sideways holding the face square to the target line. Attempting to do so is the reason most people are so bad at golf. The club has a natural state that it swings and we need to understand that and allow that in order to strike a ball consistently and powerfully.
