If anything in gaming intrigues me (Ash), it's emergent gameplay and a good challenge, which is why I decided to see if Phantom Abyss could be completed without using the whip. With current early access game mechanics (as of publishing this video), it's not possible to play Phantom Abyss without holding a whip (not without exploiting bugs, anyway). But, it is possible to play without using the whip, which was the objective of this challenge. I'm not the first to have done this, but I went in largely blind, avoiding spoilers about whether or not it was possible. In this video I walk through my approach, some other "whipless" alternatives I considered (including "hand whip"), some things that didn't work and finally the highlights of my successful attempt.
