Japan fears new variants could drive fourth wave of COVID-19 as Osaka imposes new restrictions

There have been growing concerns in Japan that coronavirus variants could be driving a new fourth wave of infections in the country. The variants appear to be more infectious, and officials fear they may be resistant to vaccines. New restrictions have been imposed in Osaka, where COVID-19 infections have hit record highs. The city has also cancelled Olympic torch relay events, but Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has insisted the Games will go ahead in Tokyo as scheduled.
