2 days and 200 hundred track miles of Norfolk Southern F-units, along the Pittsburgh and Harrisburg Lines, in PRR and RDG territory, as evidenced by the signals, including the first ever run over the "Turkey Path"! On June 8, 2012, the train dead-heads eastbound for Morrisville, PA after leaving Altoona at 0700. Under the symbol 956, we catch the train bright and early as it heads toward Harrisburg, starting at PT 116. We ended the chase on the Harrisburg Line at HP 32 by the Reading search-light signal, which is almost exactly 90 track miles from Cove. The train didn't reach the Harrisburg Line until the afternoon, after hitting a couple hours of hefty train traffic and maintenance of way work (who worked hard through the weekends to make the tracks look and feel nice for the executives). This was the first time I ever chased a train where I was able to go home and enjoy comfort for 2 hours, haha...but this also made lighting conditions tougher, but nevertheless, the beautiful weather made for some nice shots, including the first ever run of the train on the "Turkey Path", which is a round-about quarry track between CUMRU and BIRD (Cumru, PA - Birdsboro, PA) that runs on the former Reading Belt Line. On June 11, 2012, the train heads west with the NS executives comfortably riding in the back car, CEO Wick Moorman gave us friendly waves! We start at around milepost HP 40.5, at the Reading Station in Pottstown along the Harrisburg Line, and head all the way into Pennsy territory by the Position Lights at Newport, PA, milepost PT 131.5, about track 110 miles (because of the Turkey Path mileage). Anyway, sit back and enjoy the F-units polish a variety of territory, from the busy mainline, to the rare mileage off-sets.
