A friend of Torque News Jurgen, who regularly provides news updates from Tesla Giga Berlin, a few hours ago shared some of these images, showing the latest construction update from Giga Berlin and its battery cell production building.

Here is what Jurgen, who tweets at GF4Tesla, writes.

After Tesla had initially started building the hall for Giga Berlin's battery production on the site of the German Gigafactory as a mere warehouse, the company has now applied for advance approval as part of the overall project in Grünheide near Berlin. The newspaper Tagesspiegel reported on Wednesday, citing the Brandenburg Ministry of the Environment. This means that there are now a total of four as-yet unapproved advance applications for the Tesla factory. According to current statements from CEO Elon Musk, the production of Model Y is to start there this October, if possible. However, he now pointed out that the subsequent ramp-up would take about a year.

Tesla has now made 18 applications for the approval of an early start, said a spokesman for the environment ministry, according to the Tagesspiegel report. According to the Federal Immission Control Act, this is possible at the client's own risk, while a project has not been finally approved. With the 14th advance approval of this type, the State Environment Agency Tesla allowed testing of production technology already installed inside the factory building in June. Three other applications were already known, the now confirmed 18th concerns, according to the ministry, “structural measures for the building of the battery cell production."

After his most recent visit to Giga Berlin in mid-August, Tesla CEO Elon Musk spoke again on Twitter about the German Gigafactory. In response to a report about the early success of the Model Y currently imported from China in Norway, he was asked about the new colors that he said would be possible with Giga Berlin. He had seen the paint shop in Grünheide in August; it will be great, wrote Musk.

However, it also had a damper for those customers and the curious who are urgently waiting for the German Model Y: One should not forget that it will take about a year for a new factory to reach the phase of mass production, explained the Tesla boss. Europeans can therefore expect that the Model Y will still come mainly from China for a while after the start of production in Grünheide.
