Narc was released in 1988, and it had amazing graphics. It was uniquely 1980s in that, it was inline with president Reagan's policy of just say no to drugs campaign and the war on drugs. The game was action packed, and it was very difficult. The game was made like that on purpose to make the player dish out as many quarters as possible! The good thing is if you have a lot of quarters, you can keep continuing.

I played this game when I was in my teens, and the great graphics drew me into it. We don't have arcades anymore, but when I was younger in the 1980s; arcades were the places to be on the weekends. The reason for this was because arcade games were much better than the games on the consoles and computers at the time. If you compare NARC to other similar games at the time, you can clearly see that it is very good. 16 bit technology was at the pinnacle of 2d side scrolling technology, and Narc was a perfect example of this.

Narc was ported to many other systems, like the NES, Amiga 500, Amstrad, C-64, Atari ST, and ZX Spectrum in the late 1980s. However, Narc was released on later systems, like the Xbox, and Playstation 2 in the early 2000s. The repackaged game on the Playstation and Xbox had arcade quality graphics. Sadly enough, these were the times when arcades were going downhills. When the Playstation was released in 1994 console technology reached a point where graphics technology reached arcade levels. This game was copied indirectly for the PC, and that game was Crimewave released 2 years later by Access Software. Narc was a hit when it was released, and most popular arcades had it. Everyone who was interested in gaming at the time wanted a copy, so it was ported to many different systems as a result. Most people were sorely disappointed when they played it on their systems. I was when I got Narc for the Nintendo Entertainment System, the graphics on the NES was subpar. Trying to put a 16 bit game on a 8 bit platform produced poor results.

All in all, Narc was a great game when it was released, I would give it a 9.5 out of 10. It was smooth, the graphics were great, and it still has good graphics by today's standards. It was classic game of the 1980s. If you had not played this game when it came out, you should try it out.
