Question: A lot of customers have a cooktop in their kitchen as opposed to a slide-in stove, what do they need to know about having a cooktop when they are getting new countertops?

A: The most important thing is that the cooktop hole is going to be cutout on-site, the day of the install.

Laura: Ok you mean at my house?

Baxter: Yes, at your house, that is not done at our shop. The reason for that is when we cut that out, it leaves a smal rail.

Laura: What do you mean by rail?

Baxter: The rail is the front piece of stone, minus the void of the cutout in the front which is what your cooktop is going to rest on in the front and the sides. The sides you don’t have to worry about but the front you do especially in transportation and in movement. That’s why we cut it once it’s in place and done so that it doesn’t break.

Laura: So they are cutting it at my house, is that going to create a mess?

Baxter: Yes it will. We don’t sugar coat it. It’d definitely going to create dust. We do take the right measures to try and prevent as much of that as we can. You can start by taking everything out of your cabinet; take the glides off the drawers if there is a drawer. We will tape off your cabinet and have a vacuum going while we do it and we will clean up after.

Laura: Ok, so I need to have my cooktop there before they come and install because they are going to cut it to size, it’s going to create a mess but they are going to clean up after?

Baxter: That is correct, yes, we will do the best we can to clean up after and yes all appliances need to be there on site to make sure that we have a tight fit.
