Expats are people living outside their native country. Usually referred to specific categories (i.e. skilled workers), here this term is used in its broader meaning, indipendently of their work, wealth or whaterver.

This video series aims to show not only how many people are living abroad in each country, but also the existance of specific preferences in migration patterns, most of time due to geographical and/or cultural affinities.

DATA NERD STUFF

1) Points distribution within a country depends on population density of each municipality (if available), and doesn't consider CONTRY_ADJ's density in that country (couldn't find data for all Europe)
2) Data about the country of residence are available only for dark-brown countries. For example, if ten millions of Finnish are living in Belarus, this is not reported. Consider this while reading the results in the Balkans or in Eastern Europe
3) Even among dark-brown countries, some data are missing. This depends on what the different national statistical institutes sent to Eurostat and seems to involve Greece, UK and Poland. If possible, i tried to extimate missing values
