Step-by-Step Conversion Process
Remove the Old Lock: Mark the handle height on the door edge for reference. Remove the handles, escutcheon plates, cylinder screw, and all the screws along the entire length of the faceplate, then carefully remove the old Fuhr lock.

Compare and Trim: Lay the new Hoppe lock next to the old one. The new lock may be longer and require trimming to match the original length. If the kit has shootbolts, they must be extended (in the locked position) before
cutting the excess length from the top or bottom extension pieces.

Install the New Lock: Place the new Hoppe lock body into the mortise, aligning the handle height with the mark you made earlier. Install one or two screws to test the operation before securing all screws along the faceplate.
Check Operation: Insert a handle and spindle. With the door open, test the locking mechanism. For manual Hoppe locks, you must lift the handle to engage the locking points. For automatic locks, you must depress the small "mishandling device" (a small button between the deadbolt and latch) to simulate the door being closed and check that the rollers/hooks engage.

Adjust/Replace Strike Plates: The new Hoppe lock's locking points might not perfectly align with the existing strike plates on the doorjamb. You may need to remove, reposition, and potentially chisel out small portions of the doorjamb to accommodate the new components.

Reinstall Trim and Cylinder: Reinstall the interior and exterior escutcheon plates, cylinder, and handles.
