Lido Toys soft vinyl 50mm "Captain Video" alien figure with a nicely marbled blend, early to mid 1950s. I believe the "Superior Space Port" playset figures were either molded in soft or hard plastic so this may have been a candy bar premium. Fairly certain the green specimen was a Post breakfast cereal prize. The female issue is open to interpretation. There was a tradition of molding breast plates in certain armor making disciplines which the designer may have been playing off. But I just can't help but think of a 1950s science fiction artwork of a female wearing space armor, and hey it's an alien. It'd be different than us.



One part of the Lido mystique is that all of their Space Toy molds were melted down when the company went under in 1964. By comparison many of the Marx and MPC molds are still in existence & some in use making re-issue sets manufactured in Mexico. But nobody will ever press another Lido figure and the finality of that is permanent. The "Space.Trucks" videos, Instagram feed and related blog are for sharing my enthusiasm for vintage, antique & offbeat Space Toys with other grownup collectors and are not made with child-age audiences in mind.
