12 Valve Cummins Diesel Engine Timing Pin Quick Tip - Finding TDC The Easy Way

In this video I demonstrate some of the tips I learned while working on my 12 Valve. After a bit of trial and error, I was able to find TDC using the timing pin. In the video I show how to keep from snapping it and I show a quick way to find TDC easily and quickly in the future without needing the timing pin.



Although there are many ways to go about this process, as a newbie I had to learn some mistakes along the way. This is by now means the best way, or the only way; I wanted a way I could easily see a few key items on the engine and determine if the #1 cylinder was at TDC, or how far off it might be. This method also helps to confirm if the timing pin is seated or not and can also help show visually if your pump gear has slipped.
