Beat Saber: Shimmy Shimmy Style (Full Combo, Expert+, Faster Speed, Disappearing Arrows)

Full combo, faster speed, disappearing arrows. As of recording, this run is #6 on BeatLeader.

So even though this map doesn't look too hard, it took me over a year of attempts to get the FC run at faster speed. I took many breaks (for reasons I'll discuss below) but I kept coming back to it. This was one of my favourite projects and I'd highly recommend this map.

Getting the FC at normal speed was pretty easy. It's not a fast NPS map and there's nothing too crazy going on here. Hence why I decided to go for the faster speed run. While none of the patterns were particularly difficult, but some reason I kept hitting mental blocks on various parts of the map, which would completely derail my progress. While I was in that state, I couldn't get through the parts without making mistakes. Then I'd take a break for a few weeks/months to reset and try again.

The first was right at the beginning (~0:12) and sometimes when that pattern repeats. The second one was in the single saber sections, specifically after the doubles (~0:37 and repeat). I think the problem was I'd rush these parts, but practicing more just made it worse.

Once I got over my mental blocks, there were also tricky parts at the end. The section ~2:00 is somewhat tough. Then the final hurdle was the ending (~2:25). No matter how much I practiced, it felt like it was entirely luck based if I'd get through this part or not. I found the best strategy was to not think about it and let muscle memory run the show...as soon as I thought what I was doing I'd completely choke. So I had to get a FC up to this point, and somehow not mess up the ending. I lost so many runs to that ending.

Overall, such a fun map. As usual, the body cam is not the actual run shown since I don't record myself when I'm grinding runs.
