We Intentionally recorded our TinyDesk contest submission video here at Liberation Station.
It’s the only Black-owned bookstore in North Carolina and one of only a few in the nation. Liberation Station serves as a vital cultural and intellectual space….dedicated to preserving Black history, amplifying marginalized voices, and fostering community through education and dialogue.

Recording “monSTARS” in this space was essential. The song’s themes of discernment and truth align directly with the mission of Liberation Station: to illuminate knowledge, confront harmful narratives, and create a safe environment for reflection and growth. In a space built on awareness and liberation, the performance becomes more than music…it becomes context.

“monSTARS” explores the tension between perception and reality….between what appears safe and what proves harmful over time. The song reflects on how danger often presents itself subtly, disguised by familiarity, charm, or proximity. Through this lens, the lyrics examine discernment, misplaced trust, and the emotional cost of learning who and what to guard against.

At its core, “monSTARS” is about awareness without cynicism. It acknowledges the presence of monsters….systems, behaviors, and individuals that quietly cause harm.. while insisting on the preservation of one’s inner light. The song encourages self-protection without the loss of empathy, and clarity without bitterness.
