.338 Spectre - Silent Superiority(TM)

The .338 Spectre was a byproduct of the .458 SOCOM design process. One of the cartridges considered during the aforementioned process was the 9 x 39 mm Grom, which however was not available in the US. In addition, some SpetsNaz reports indicated that while terminal effects were outstanding, accuracy was not ideal. Originally envisioned as a 9mm or .35 caliber variant, the decision was made to use .338 caliber to afford a better shoulder for headspacing, as well as take advantage of the excellent MatchKing bullets offered by Sierra Bullets.

The ultimate result was a small, efficient cartridge using 10mm Magnum pistol brass and heavy-for-caliber .338 diameter bullets. Capable of firing anything from the 160 grain Barnes to the 300 grain SMK at subsonic velocity, the Spectre has proven itself to be versatile, but most of all - quiet.

Using a standard 9mm suppressor, users have indicated that sound signatures are less than that of 9mm subsonic ammunition, while offering significantly higher projectile mass as well as improved long range ballistics.
