A young man driving a white Mercedes Benz that careened out of control and smashed into a parked Rolls Royce at the Sheraton Doha yesterday was escorted off the premises by police, the hotel said.

After video footage of the incident went viral last night, the Sheraton acknowledged in a statement to WGO Qatar that a “dangerous incident” took place Sunday morning, adding:

“We can confirm that the individual was not a guest of the hotel and no injuries occurred to any guests or associates. The individual was escorted off the local premises by local authorities.”

It is unclear if he remains in custody.

In a statement posted on Facebook late Monday night, the Ministry of Interior said it arrested both the driver of the vehicle for damaging property in front of the Sheraton and “other two persons who recorded the video of the incident and spread through social media.”

Qatar is currently considering adopting legislation that would make it illegal to take or share photos of accident victims without consent, but that applies to those who are deceased or injured in such incidents.
