Hey everyone, I'm Evangeline right here at etrailer and since every bike rack fits every vehicle differently, we are gonna focus in on how the Yakima OnRamp LX fits on the 2025 Nissan Kicks. The OnRamp LX is very popular because of how compact it is, but also it's heavy duty 80 pound weight capacity. So if you are looking to carry around your heavy electric bikes and you want something that will make that process a bit easier, the OnRamp might be helpful for you. Now this comes with the ramp, but because of how it fits on the Nissan Kicks, you might not even need it. So let's be able to take a look at some of the features like that. We actually installed a two inch hitch receiver here on the Nissan Kicks and you are going to have to have a hitch to carry around your bike rack and your bike.
With this you're gonna have some pretty decent clearance. Your bike sits about 18 inches up and off the ground. The tray sits about 16 inches off the ground, so low enough where you might not even need the ramp to load your bike up on that closest cradle, but also tall enough where you're not bottoming out over most speed bumps and pothole and far enough where you see our mountain bike handle bars, plenty of space and clearance between the bike and the vehicle. So as you are driving around, you will have good clearance all throughout. Now if you need to get access into your hatch, you can also tilt this rack away.
Where your shank is, there are two pins, so one you can pull and just let hang there. The other one is more of a pinch and pull motion, so I highly recommend doing this with a second person if you have this weighted up. So pinch and then pull the pin out and then the rack drops down to a tilt. So imagine if this was loaded up with two 80 pound bikes, that might be a lot of weight coming down, so definitely recommend getting some help for that one. But now that the rack is tilted away, look at all this clearance.
We can open up our hatch door, get into our cargo area of our Nissan Kicks. If you have, let's say your backpack's in here or you like to switch out your shoes, this is a great way to do so without having to take off the bikes from the bike rack. And when you are ready to go back onto the road, you just lift the rack up. That first pin snaps into place. So don't forget to put the second pin back in.
There are three touch points on the bike securing it to the rack. One and two are going to be your wheel straps. So when you put your bike up onto the rack, you just push the tire up against those tracks and then you strap this down. When he needs to remove the bike, you press the lever and remove the strap so it doesn't get caught up in the spokes. The same thing for that rear cradle and the rear cradle can be adjusted with a knob underneath for your different bike lengths or wheel bases. Now the third touch point is gonna be our frame mount. So this is an adjustable frame mount. You can secure this to whichever part of the bike makes the most sense and same thing as the wheel mount. You press that lever and then you pull the strap out. But then what I do is take this next step and I loosen the frame mount so that I can just swing this out of the way and that makes it a bit easier to take the bike down. Now sometimes I set up the ramp first before removing the bike, but with how this is structured, you can see that distance that the bike has to travel, now it's on the ground. So with the heavier electric bikes that often are, whoop, cable stuck there, there we go with the heavier electric bikes that are often have those rear heavy hubs, this motion here is a lot easier than having to lift the bike completely off or completely onto the bike rack. If you did want to use the ramp, it is stored on the bike rack held in by this knob and this is helpful if you wanna set up, let's say the second bike and that's gonna be a bit higher up. The ramp fits into the side of the cradle just like that. And then this is adjustable. It works kind of like a puzzle piece where you have to remove the knob and then fit it back into each other and then you tighten knob back down like that and then that fits into the bike rack. So it does take a little bit more time compared to some other racks, but like that you would be able to load up your bike even onto that ta
