Why the Prophet Warned Us Against Consuming Donkey Meat You Will Be Surprised 😳
Allah, the Most High, says in his noble book: "And [He created] the horses, mules and donkeys for you to ride and [as] adornment. And He creates that which you do not know." (Quran 16:8)
Many people wonder whether eating donkey meat is lawful or unlawful, and whether Allah will punish us for eating it. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade eating domestic donkey meat and made it unlawful for Muslims.
He said: "Indeed, Allah and His Messenger forbid you from eating domestic donkey meat, as it is impure, the work of the devil." On the other hand, he permitted the consumption of horse meat. According to Asma, may Allah be pleased with her, she said: "We slaughtered a horse at the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and we ate it."
He also permitted the consumption of wild donkey (zebra) meat.
Abu Qatada, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "I hunted a zebra, and I brought a piece to the Prophet, who ate it and said to his companions, 'It is lawful, eat from it.'"
As for the basic principle followed for the prohibition of animals, they are the following:
Everything that Islamic law declares its specific prohibition, such as the domestic donkey and pork, any wild animal that hunts with its claws such as the lion, wolf and others.
Among the birds, everything that has claws and talons with which they feed, such as the falcon, everything whose wickedness is known, such as the mouse and insects. Everything whose malice is manifest such as scavengers, these are the animals that feed on impurities.
Everything that is known to eat carcasses, such as the crow, or that is born from a lawful animal and an unlawful animal, such as the mule, which is born from a mare fertilized by a donkey. Everything that has been ordered to be killed, such as the snake and scorpion, or what is forbidden to be killed, such as the ant, the bee and others.
Everything on which has been pronounced a name other than that of Allah, or that has been sacrificed to other than Allah. Likewise, it is forbidden the dead animal on which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, or which has not been slaughtered in his name, the Most High.
Allah is the most knowledgeable.
