Automatic Luba Garage Door

I’ve been in the process of building a garage for my Luba. I wanted the door to open and close. I was going to do a mechanical door but my first design failed. Then I got the idea to do a linear actuator. I’ve never built a linear actuator project so I was pretty excited to give it a try.

I ordered a micro switch that I hoped would activate the actuator.

My switch idea didn’t end up working but I’m still pleased with the functionality. I may try another actuator if I can find a faster one. Or, I may be able to drop down to a 4 inch actuator and put the mounting point at the top of the door instead of down low.

To get the door fully operational, I dug an Insteon low voltage contact closet interface that I used to use to open my garage on my house years before the WiFi openers that are now available. I wired it up and set it back up in my Insteon hub then created a scene that I can schedule. Since I mow at 10:00 every day, I have it scheduled to open a couple minutes before. It’s a work around until I figure out something else.
