Reason for test. Dealer rigged boat with 30" shaft engine. Prior engine was 25". When dealer was questioned, I was told that this was the right engine for my boat, and a 25" would not be safe. When I explained the operation with their recommended set up, I was told they would raise the engine until it stopped. With this set up, there is only another 1 1/2" the motor can be raised. This would be by raising the Jack Plate on the transom. Beyond that, modifications would have to occur. Prior to the test, the motor had been lifted to the bottom hole by the dealer (there are 4 holes 3/4" apart). Standard practice is to start at the second hole down which is how the motor was previously rigged. That is 1 1/2" lower than in this test with room to go down another hole. Total adjustability of 30" engine, 3" at bracket. Adjustability of Jack Plate, 1 1/2". Goal when rigging boat was to have motor at full down on Jack Plate during normal operation so to reduce leveraged stress on transom. Jack Plate would be utilized for slow speed access of shallow waters.
