S2 E32 3d Printing Turnout Components with Templot Plug Track | Bexhill West model railway

Описание к видео S2 E32 3d Printing Turnout Components with Templot Plug Track | Bexhill West model railway

Hello everyone,

Part 1 of this series can be found here:

   • S2 E31 3d Printed Model Railway Plug ...

Edit (post-publishing) I make a mistake around the 12.50 mark, in that I say the S1 and S1J chairs are not interchangeable with those used in plain track where gauge widening has been incorporated..
This is wrong, they are fully interchangeable. My apologies for the mistake and any confusion caused.

In this video I look at separating-out the chairs from a turnout to make convenient rafts of the special chairs used in turnout building.
I also look at 'splitting' timbering bases to fit onto the bed of a 3d printer using the Blanking and Length tools.

Just last week Martin Wynne introduced an update to Templot which makes finding the Blanking tool much easier. Hence, this video was re-shot to accommodate the changes - that's also why it's a bit later coming out than I'd hoped for.
When you start Templot it will prompt you to download the latest version, you'll need to do that to follow this tutorial. If for whatever reason that isn't possible, the Blanking tool can be activated by pressing the '3' key (or Ctrl+f3).

As with part 1, I go through these processes slowly. With practice it really doesn't take long to extract the chairs and timbering bases, so I'd recommend practicing several times until the process come naturally.
Tip: If things are not quite working out as you'd planned, check that you've stored your template to the background using the 'orange arrows' button. This if often the solution to problems.

Last time, I showed how to extract the default clip-fit chairs, with slots to receive the Loose Outer Jaws. I didn't show how to extract the Loose Jaws though which was an omission.
I've had many questions asking about this.
So, to extract just the Loose Outer Jaws go: Real .. Chairing/3-D ... chair jaw options on this template.
When the chairing dialog opens, click the button to select 'export only loose outer jaws and keys'.
Then repeat the process you used to export the chairs.

If you are new to Templot, then I'd suggest experimenting with this process, using the preview option to see if the results were as you expected. The correct procedure will soon become apparent, and all will become simple.

Thanks for watching,

James
