Lance and Wendy Olson wanted to downsize from their 2,500 square foot home, lower their footprint and build a super energy-efficient dream home from scratch.
Lance spent a few years researching different strategies and features of their planned eco-friendly home and landed on straw bale construction and a feature he was totally enamoured with - rammed Earth walls.
They wanted some expert input so they talked to the SAIT green building folks at SAIT in Calgary, Alberta and they connected him with Habib Gonzalez, a straw bale guru who has built most of the straw bale homes in Western Canada.
We were there in 2016 when they built the home thanks to the help of many volunteers the researchers from SAIT and Habib Gonzalez himself.

This is one of the most innovative green homes we have ever seen. It's loaded with innovative and artistic features that Lance and Wendy have incorporated into the straw bale design.
