1. Who started Sawan Monday fast?
According to the belief of Hinduism, Sawan month is considered to be the month of God Shankar, the God of Gods. There is a legend in this regard that when Sanat Kumaras asked Mahadev the reason to love the month of Savan, Lord Shiva told that when Goddess Sati sacrificed her body with Yog Shakti in her father Daksha's house, before that Goddess Sati Had pledged to have Mahadev as a husband in every birth.
In her second birth, Goddess Sati was born as a daughter in the house of Himachal and Queen Maina by the name of Parvati. Parvati fasted hard during the spring months to please Mahadev and Mahadev married her, after which this month became special for Mahadev.
2. Should one fast on Monday?
Later on Shravan month started to be called 'Shravan Monday', this led to the understanding that in the month of Shravan, fast should be observed only on Mondays while from this month fasting days start for 4 months, which is called Chaturmas. Public can keep fast on Monday only. According to Shivpuran, the desire with which one observes the Mondays of this month is fulfilled and that wish is fulfilled as soon as possible.
Those who want to fast for 16 Mondays can also start fasting from the first Monday of Savan. Worshiping Lord Shiva with bilva leaf in this month is best and auspicious.
3. Should one fast for the whole month?
In Sanatan, Shravan month is considered to be a holy and fasting month. It is allowed to remain non-vegetarian or fruitless throughout the month of Shravan. Milk, sugar, curd, oil, brinjal, leafy vegetables, salted or spicy food, sweets, betel nuts, meat and liquor are not consumed during this fast.
In Shravan leafy vegetables like spinach are discarded. During this time one should not shave, hair and nails should not be cut. The Agnipuran states that fasters should bath daily, eat limited amounts of food. There is a difference between houm(होम) and worship. The Vishnu Dharmottara Purana prescribes that one who fasts should chant the mantras of the presiding deity, meditate on them, listen to their stories and worship them.
6. Is this Shravani Upakarma Karma, apart from a complete fast?
Some people also perform Shravani Upakarma in this month. By the way, this work is also done during Kumbh Snan. This karma is done on the banks of an ashram, forest or river. This means that this work is done by living a life like a monk away from home.
There are 3 sides to Shravani Upakarma- Atonement Resolution, Sacrament and Self-study. For the whole month, you should do Shraavani Upakarma by staying in the company of a Guru on the bank of a river. This is the most beneficial month, which is why a person fasting during this fast chants, meditates or meditates.
In the month of Shravan, Shravan Shukla Poornima is definitely described as Shravani Upakarma for every Sanatani. Bathing in this method leads to self-purification and they also feel satisfied by the offering of ancestors. Shravani festival is considered a sacred festival of purity of body, mind and senses since Vedic period.

Most of the people fast for two times after eating a lot of foods. Some people eat at the same time. Some people make rules by their own mind and then fast. It has also been seen that some people give up slippers but do not abuse. While fasting, abandoning travel, cohabitation, negotiation, food should be discarded only then it gets its fruit.
