This was a bad idea...

Hello! It's been a while, hasn't it? Over a year to be precise since my last upload. I have been very busy during that time earning a qualification for my dream job, so I haven't had a whole lot of time or energy to think creatively. Now that this is coming to an end, it has given me some more free time and head space to dedicate towards making some more music. Here is one piece that I was working on. It is a bit of a joke track and not meant to be taken seriously. I am also personally a fan of the original artist! So, I hope that this does not offend them.

During my hiatus, I have also mustered the cash for FL Studio! So I won't be stuck with the trial and having to discard my hard work every time I close the application. And not only that, but the package that grants me access to all of the native plugins. And so far, I am very pleased with it. Currently I am just experimenting with a few of the new features that released with FL 21. One of those features is a new plugin called NewTime. This seems to be a cousin to the earlier NewTone, which is another really cool plugin that you can use to manipulate the tone of audio samples on a piano roll, and do some autotuning. NewTime instead can be used to time-warp samples in little segments, which I'm finding really useful for matching badly timed vocals or drum loops. It works pretty much seamlessly, and this is precisely what I was using it for here. So, consider this as a bit of a test.

For the pitch manipulation, I instead opted to use automation clips for this, because it was just easier to work with this from the playlist rather than saving new samples in NewTone. I was experimenting with formant shifting also, which is a super cool feature that allows you to shift the position of the harmonics in vocal tracks. In Layman's terms, this means altering the perception of the sound without changing the actual pitch of the vocals. For the pitch shifting, it has been especially useful to avoid sharp spikes in the high end of the frequency spectrum, especially when shifting up. And FL 21 introduced this new feature in the sampler that shifts the formants automatically (called "restretch pro"). I thought that was really neat. I think it give the DAW yet another edge ahead of competitors like Ableton...

Special thanks to "Cardi" (@masteremarald123) for producing the instrumental used in this track!

Please let me know what you think! I really enjoyed making this. If you guys have any ideas for what I should do in the future, please let me know in the comments! I am thinking of doing a mashup next...
