In the early morning of 1 August 1915, a formation of British bombers attacked the German airfield at La Brayelle. The airfield, located about 2 miles West of Douai, was home to German aviation unit “Feldflieger Abteilung 6”. The German unit’s Eindeckers were equipped with Anthony Fokker’s newest synchronisation gear. In the coming months, the Eindeckers and their pilots would inflict heavy losses upon the British and the French. 1 August was the day Max Immelmann gained his first confirmed aerial victory, and is remembered as the beginning of the "Fokker Scourge".
