Update: Blizzard responded by removing phone number requirements for a majority of OW players. Any player with a Battle.net account, which includes all players who have played since June 9, 2021 will have the restriction removed starting by October 7, 2022. Be aware if the listed criterias don't apply to you, the SMS Protect is required

Blizzard Entertainment announced SMS Protect for the release of Overwatch 2. However, Prepaid/VOIP phone numbers aren't applicable. In most cases, the SMS leaves people out from playing the game since people can't afford to switch their plan to a different service provider because they're not financially stable. The Overwatch Community is known to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences, but the SMS causes a divide within the community. If you notice a friend missing throughout OW2, at least you know what happened. Consider spreading awareness for this issue.
