Batman Returns - Sega CD Review

Описание к видео Batman Returns - Sega CD Review

Early in the life of the Sega CD, Batman Returns showed us two contrasting sides of the platform. One was a sad tale of a cartridge game being dumped on a CD for full retail price. The second, was a new game that truly took advantage of the hardware.

Episode Notes:

1. Captured via the Mega SG/Mega SD.

2. The first words out of my daughters mouth while playing this was "why is the first stage so hard?".

3. Malibu Interactive was know as Acme Interactive before being swallowed up by Malibu Graphics Publishing Group. They had already worked for Sega on Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing and David Robinson's Supreme Court Basketball by that point.

4. The Sega CD version of Batman Returns has a different ending than the cartridge version.

5. When combined, the driving and platforming segments make for not just a challenging game, but also a fairly long one. Having just 3 continues means few have seen the ending without cheats.

6. Although I loved Batman Returns on the SNES, its driving segment is a joke compared to the Sega CD's.

7. There are a few other games that really took advantage of the hardware like this. SoulStar and Thunderhawk did as well.

8. The PAL version of this tends to be quite a bit cheaper. There is no Japanese version.

9. The platform game is beatable with some practice. Some stages are just outright cheap, though, and a few of those boss encounters will send you into fits of rage. The final segments of the batskiboat are difficult as well, but again, practice can you see you through it.
