Smaller yet more powerful, the new Cat C13D Stage V 13 litre engine with expert Bill Hardy

Peter Haddock speaks to engine performance manager Bill Hardy about what this new engine means for both Caterpillar equipment and other OEM products. 

Bill: “With this new engine, we have used advanced controls and sensors to optimise performance, turning increased efficiency into power. 

"It will replace our previous three engine categories, including the C13, C15 and C18 litre models creating a whole new range of opportunities for future equipment design. 

"It not only replaces these engines, but it will actually perform in many cases better than those engines. This is thanks to a range of improvements that include a modern state of the art fuel injection system and a new turbocharger.

"Combined with clever technology that can optimise the engine for different types of machines and applications, it all leads to greater fuel savings and efficiency.”
