Skinetic by Actronika

Actronika is a Parisian startup specialized in vibrotactile haptics, founded in 2016. Our work is based on over 30 years of research by our co-founder Vincent Hayward, a member of the Academy of Sciences, for his pioneering work in the science of touch. We reproduce the sense of touch in our customers' experiences and products.

At Actronika, we are a team of robotics experts, technology fanatics, lifelong learners, music enthusiasts... but also passionate gamers! This project got its start thanks to a few people in the team who wanted to improve their own gaming experience, using Actronika's haptic technology. They experimented with a rough prototype, and the results were enough to get the whole team excited and on board - so much that we all decided to take on the challenge of creating our own product! And so Skinetic was born.

For the design of the vest, we worked with the Parisian costume design studio Les Vertugadins who helped us to achieve the most ergonomic design possible, without compromising style.

The vest is gender-neutral & one-size-fits-all with 6 adjustable points to balance the height and width, and the fabric is stretchy for a fitted look on every figure.

It is quick and easy to put on. Anyone can adjust it for themselves in less than a minute. It even has a removable and washable mesh lining.

In the vest, we integrated two of our most innovative vibrotactile voice-coil motors, capable of providing a wide variety of sensations.

We know that it is not easy for game studios to integrate haptics in their games alone. Along with the Skinetic vest itself, we provide a complete haptic software platform to help developers create immersive experiences including:
A haptic rendering engine to facilitate the integration of vibrotactile haptics in games and augmented reality.
A collection of pre-designed tactile effects to kickstart the design of immersive interactions.
A tool to tweak predesigned effects and design their own haptic sensations from scratch to suit their own unique needs.
