Subscribe here: https://bit.ly/eudebates Australia is joining Japan and the United States on Exercise Yama Sakura (87) for the second year running to enhance interoperability and mutual defence capability.

More than 300 ADF personnel, most from Headquarters 1st (Australian) Division, will take part in the large-scale command post training exercise from December 7-14, involving 5000 personnel from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and 1500 from the US Army.

Commander 1st (Australian) Division Major General Ash Collingburn said the 1st (Australian) Division, as Army's 'unit of action', must continue to work with allies and partners to enhance interoperability in preparation for large-scale combat operations.

"Exercise Yama Sakura 87 will further strengthen the Australia-Japan-US trilateral Defence partnership and contribute to regional security in support of a stable, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region," Major General Collingburn said.

The exercise will be held at sites across Japan, the US and at Gallipoli Barracks in Queensland.
