In this video, Dr. Sucheta Kaul Gugnani, Senior Consultant – Cornea, Cataract & Refractive Surgery at Eye7 Hospitals, New Delhi, performs a Collagen Crosslinking (C3R) procedure for Mr. Sameer Dahal, a young patient from Nepal, diagnosed with Keratoconus.

Keratoconus is a progressive condition that causes thinning and bulging of the cornea, leading to distorted vision. If not treated in time, it can result in severe visual impairment. The C3R (Collagen Crosslinking) treatment is a safe and effective way to halt the progression of Keratoconus by strengthening the corneal tissue and preventing further deterioration.

In this case, Dr. Sucheta demonstrates the manual “epithelium-off” C3R technique. Epithelium (outer layer of the cornea) is gently removed using Paracain drops. After preparing the corneal surface, riboflavin drops are applied for 20 minutes followed by UV light exposure using the accelerated protocol. The UV rays activate the riboflavin to strengthen the collagen fibers in the cornea, making it more stable.

Throughout the procedure, Dr. Sucheta ensures perfect beam alignment and patient comfort, explaining each step clearly. The process is painless, quick, and highly effective, allowing patients like Sameer to regain stable and clearer vision.
