Pure joy from the director I love best in the world (after Antonioni) Can you imagine - he films the audience for about 6 minutes listening to the overture instead of the usual mega-boring option of filming the orchestra in the pit. The genius of such a simple decision.
Part of the cinematic experience is watching the faces 'receive' the music - and the whole world knows that Bergman was The director of filming the human face.
