The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board has informed Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard that her temporary appointee for police chief, Ronnie Burge Sr., is unauthorized to exercise law enforcement authority. Despite this, Henyard appointed Burge to a 30-day position as chief on November 6, against the trustees' vote. Burge, a former police chief, has been inactive since April 2021 and lacks the necessary requalification to carry a firearm. The board urged Henyard to remove Burge from public service until proper paperwork is submitted. Previously, a judge invalidated Henyard's appointments due to procedural errors. Trustees have expressed concerns about the lack of information on salaries and background checks for appointees. The legal dispute continues as trustees challenge Henyard's appointments.
