12. Coffin Ray
This is the Coffin Ray, also called the Australian Numbfish, and at first glance...you might not be able to notice that it honestly is a fish. It certainly doesn't look like one, and you'd be hard-pressed to find things that are honestly very fish-like about it.
11. Sarcastic Fringehead
When you hear the name Sarcastic fringehead, you probably don't think it's much of a threat, but you would be dead wrong because not unlike a certain lizard above ground, this fish knows how to make its head bigger than you would expect, and make it seem like a deadlier opponent than it actually is.
10. Sea Lamprey
If you are looking for truly "monstrous" fish that have been caught, then look no further than the Sea Lamprey. These creatures aren't just evil-looking, they look like something from a monster movie, especially when you see their mouth and the many ROWS of teeth that they have.
9. A Dinosaur-Like Sea Creature
In September of 2019, a Norwegian fisherman named Oscar Lundahl went viral on the internet when he found himself looking at a fish that was downright dinosaur-like in shape and appearance, especially in terms of the size of the creature’s eye.
8. Lancetfish
The Lancetfish was a rare fish to encounter near the surface, which meant catching them was unlikely due to the depths they lived at. Thus, the only true way to "find them" was if they were washed up on the shore after dying.
7. Giant Sea Cockroach
A journey from members of a research team from Singapore to the waters of Indonesia turned up a brand new species that is now known as the "Bathynomus raksasa", but it's also known as the "Giant Sea Cockroach".
6. The Mud-Dweller
Andrew Rose was fishing in the Northern Territory of Australia in Kakadu national park when he snagged a 6 inch (15cm) -long worm goby – a rare, mud-dwelling fish with no eyes, a bony head, and sharp teeth.
5. Napoleon Fish
Take a look at this truly special fish. This is known as The Wrasse, and it is a fish you definitely don't see that often. It's characterized by having thick, fleshy lips and a hump on the top of the head, just above the eyes, reminiscent of the bicorn, the hat worn by Napoleon Bonaparte.
4. Poisonous Bearded Fireworm
This fisherman tale comes from Alyssa Ramirez, an Angler from Texas who early on in 2020 went fishing with her mother and caught a creature that she couldn't describe in any metric. At first, she thought it was plant-life caught in her line, but then she started to see the creature moving and realized that things were a bit more complicated.
3. "Human-like" Triggerfish?
Once, a real species of fish called the Triggerfish was caught, and the fisherman who got it noticed that the teeth of the fish were very human-like. Naturally, they wanted to show it off so they put it on the internet, and a debate raged about whether this fish was real or not because of how the teeth looked.
2. Coney Island Creature
In early 2020 a person fishing off the pier of Coney Island pulled up a creature that no one could recognize. Other fishermen were around them when the writhing fish was caught and after posting it to Tik Tok various people weighed in on it, its unique shape and form, and what it might be.
1. Two-Mouthed Fish
Fishermen know to expect a weird fish to get caught every once in a while, but one that seems to defy nature? That's something else entirely. One incident like this was when angler Debbie Geddes went and pulled out a fish that quite literally had two mouths on it.
