The #DRDO Airborne Early Warning and Control System(#AEWACS) is a project of India's Defence Research andDevelopment Organisation to develop an airborne early warning and control system for the Indian Air Force. It is also referred to as DRDO NETRA AEW&CS system.

#DRDO developed a muitisensor airborne early warningand control (#AEW&C) system on a carrier jet, providing anairborne surveillance system in collaboration with CAB(Centre for Airborne Systems) for the #IndianAirForce. Itis the first native AEW system developed by DRDO andCAB. It was completely developed and built using thenative technology platform, #EMB-145.

The AEW&C system is developed to serve the IndianAir Force in detection and tracking, identification andclassification of threats, guidance and interceptioncontrol, display of air situation picture and multisensordata integration.

The system enables the armed forces to communicatewith fighter jets and other AEW&C assets, while it alsoallows for Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, missionplanning as well as record and replay for post missionanalysis.

Major Role In Balakot Air Strike

The #Netra #AEW&C system, which has been developed by the DRDO, has an indigenous radar mounted on the Embraer #Emb-145 aircraft and teh system gives a 240-degree coverage of airspace. The surveillance aircraft is also equipped with an air-to-air refuelling probe for longer endurance. AWACS can detect and track incoming enemy fighters, cruise missile and drones much before ground-based radars can spot them.
