The GraphiteVA (Virtual Appliance) is a VM that collects performance metrics from clustered Data ONTAP and 7-Mode controllers and displays user-friendly performance dashboards. Capacity information is collected from OnCommand Unified Manager also. This gives administrators a consolidated performance and capacity view of a cluster or controller and calculations, such as I/O Density, can be done dynamically. This in-depth view of storage system metrics gives administrators the data they need to make provisioning and troubleshooting decisions. The main components of the VA package include Graphite, Grafana, and Harvest. These are installed automatically on first boot with no user expertise required. Configuration is simple and performed through a menu that guides the user along the way. Finally, a set of dashboards are included that show overviews of controllers and clusters and also detail-oriented dashboards on storage objects and protocols.
