The RIYO Creative Conference by the RIYO Consultancy marked a historic milestone as the UK’s first sold-out Somali-led creative symposium, proudly hosted at the Grange Pavilion on Saturday 25 October 2025 in Cardiff and in partnership with the Horn Development Association.

Under the theme “Celebrating Somali Innovation, Creativity and Leadership”, #RIYO2025 brought together an inspiring and diverse collective of Somali creatives, journalists, health professionals, entrepreneurs, PR and marketing experts, technologists, and community leaders from across the UK and internationally to showcase how they have harnessed the transformative power of multimedia to drive social impact in their work.

Rooted in a commitment to challenge exclusion and centre Somali voices, the conference was intentionally designed to create spaces where storytelling, leadership, media, and mental health are powerfully integrated for greater impact. Through honest conversations, shared lived experiences and meaningful connections, #RIYO2025 demonstrated the power of community-led platforms and reinforced the importance of telling our own stories, on our own terms.

The conference reaffirmed that Somali excellence cuts across industries, that innovation thrives when communities lead, and that media integration should never be an afterthought in any field. When harnessed collectively, the media has the power to amplify voices, bridge backgrounds, and drive intentional representation rather than tokenism.

From powerful presentations and panel discussions to engaging creative workshops and moments of connection, laughter and learning, this was a day that will resonate far beyond the room.

Thank you to our phenomenal speakers, volunteers, panellists, partners, and to everyone who travelled far and wide to celebrate our community and our collective achievements. This was a powerful reminder that we are no longer the minority — we are the majority!
