THERE WAS A PLAN...and then there wasn't. We are supposed to be in Portland finishing our album that is scheduled to release in October, right before a scheduled 75-day national tour. This is what happens when "The Accidentals" plan ahead. We have been trying to get ahead of the three-month window for 8 years. Finally, we did it...and then, we didn't.
It's cool, though. This window of time opened up, and new opportunities introduced new challenges and all of that led to incredible growth, as usual. If nothing else, we are a band that embraces change. We just find the positives. We are socially distant by nature. :)
We've survived forest fires, lost tires, white outs, and water up to our door handles. We've survived lost gear, confronted all our fears, crossed the country in a day, and had gas station ramen while waiting for vehicle repairs. That's life. We are lucky because music has taught us to be resilient, to make the best of it, to be flexible and change plans when the plans change. We've been conditioned to find a way.
That's how this video was made. It is the embodiment of learning something new, improvising, asking for what we need, leaning on each other, and developing new skillsets. We figured out how to record from three locations, get good audio, and put it together in a way that made sense (while improvising a desk).
We are back to working in a three-month window, but after 8 years, that's not too uncomfortable. We're thankful for this time, and for each of you.
The Line started out as a song about hopelessness, feeling stifled, overwhelmed, afraid. Then this space opened up and we could breathe. We watched the way that nature creeps back into the empty spaces left by the silence. In the quiet, we started noticing birdcalls, watching the sky change, and trying not to take any of it for granted. There is so much beauty in the stillness. The silver lining in all of this is: in the space while we were gone, nature was thriving. There is new growth, that little flower is blooming, and in our confinement, earth was free to breathe. Maybe we can enter that space more carefully now that we have seen the difference. Maybe we can have a greater appreciation of what exists in the quiet.
