Description

**Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA)**, the second Caliph of Islam, was one of the closest companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Born in 584 CE in Mecca, he belonged to the influential Quraysh tribe. Initially, an opponent of Islam, Umar embraced the faith after being moved by the teachings of the Quran, and his conversion marked a turning point for the early Muslim community. Known for his strong character, justice, and administrative skills, he earned the title "Al-Farooq" (the one who distinguishes between right and wrong).

During his caliphate (634-644 CE), the Islamic empire expanded significantly, encompassing regions such as Persia, Egypt, and the Levant. Hazrat Umar implemented significant administrative reforms, including the establishment of the Shura (consultative council), welfare systems, and the Bait-ul-Mal (public treasury). He also introduced the Islamic calendar (Hijri) and emphasized justice and equality, treating all citizens fairly regardless of their background.

*Darye Neel (The River Nile)* holds a notable place in Umar's legacy. When Egypt faced a drought, local people told Umar's appointed governor, Amr ibn al-As, about their custom of sacrificing a young girl to the Nile to ensure its annual flooding. Rejecting this pagan practice, Amr wrote to Hazrat Umar, who sent back a letter addressed to the Nile, stating that if the river flows by Allah's will, it shall flow. When the letter was thrown into the river, the waters rose, marking an end to the old ritual and demonstrating the power of faith in Allah. This event symbolizes Umar's commitment to abolishing superstition and reinforcing Islamic principles.
